Porn,
gambling, identity theft, scams, scum and millions of spam messages...
the Internet is often condemned by believers as the "wicked web."
But I believe this is exactly where God wants us to be. Here with
the modern tax collectors and prostitutes we come to bring light and
hope. We can't just chat online about how unfortunate it is to live
for sin. Redemption comes through love, truth and allowing God to
reveal Himself in people's lives.
I'd like to introduce you to a few of our outreach efforts on the
web:
1.
The Film Institute-
This is a new site YWAM Woodcrest is working on in tandem with believers
in the Hollywood film industry. It will provide links, information,
news and prayer requests for film-industry missionaries who desire to
work through Hollywood to see it transformed.
2.
YWAM
passport -
If "knowledge is power" then we are the most powerful generation
in history. But power requires responsibility. The Connect Portal provides
easy access to useful online knowledge: global headlines, Bible search,
Google web search, online translation (of 9 major languages), maps/directions
and missions related links. Plus it provides one-click-away links to
editing YWAMconnect sites, checking email and online tech support. It
is an excellent "favorites page" where we can use online information
to help connect the world with the love of Jesus.
3.
Web Design Training -
The web ministry at YWAM Woodcrest began with the six week Applied
Principles of Internet Communication course. This sparked the launching
of a number of sites (YWAMafrica.org,
Radiate.us, WhyNotWomen.com
and others). Since then, we have also held the Web Design for Beginners
and the Potential of the
Internet seminar for advanced web designers. Numerous sites and web
applications have since spun off and multiplied (Rnews.tk,
The Film Institute, MissionWares.com,
Village Web Café, Exited.net, From
The Heart Ministries, V2, TheRevolution.ws, MercyWorks.org, and
numerous YWAMconnect sites). People trained here at YWAM Woodcrest have
created sites reaching out to Europe, Africa, North and South America.
4.
YWAMconnect.NET
- This is a wonderful online community of more than 6000 YWAMers
and YWAM supporters. By sharing news, photos, prayer requests and just
being "together" online, YWAMconnect.NET is strengthening
our mission and serving the cause of missions throughout the world.
5.
YWAM
Writers Group -
In one year our new online forum for Christian missionary writers has
gained over one-hundred members. It is an online community for exchanging
help, encouragement and writing skills between YWAM writers all over
the world.
All
of these examples show how a few ordinary people can work with our extraordinary
God to bless people around the world. I invite you to join us. Let's
not scream at the darkness. Let's shine the light of Christ and see
the web redeemed.
