YWAMer Founds Jamaican Orphanage
www.newszap.com: "The orphanage aids children from birth to 5 years old. It currently has around 15 children. Children older than 5 are placed in another institution.A prepared statement from NHCH said it is 'a private, government-licensed children's home, which has been caring for children's lives since 1993. It is licensed through the Children's Services Division of the Ministry of Health and is legally incorporated for small children from birth to 5 years of age. Our average number of children here at the home is between 16-20.'Explaining its history, it continued, 'Amanda Williams returned to Jamaica to do her disciple missionary training school at Youth With A Mission, Manchester, Jamaica in 1987. She had been doing foster care in Hawaii for five years. She has her training in teaching.'After serving five years with YWAM, she saw a need for a small children's or babies' foster home in Mandeville. It would be a place where God's healing and restoration could take place,' it said.'There are six children's homes in the Manchester Parish. As of now, New Hope Children's Home is the only one in the city of Mandeville. The home takes children from the social service officers or the police in emergency situations,' NHCH said.'It is difficult for the other homes to take infants because of the cost of formula and the extra caretakers that are needed. Our God is faithful,' it said.NCHC said the home is incorporated as New Hope Charities and the ministry is in the process of buying the home.'The Chairman of the Board is Dr. Derek Ledford. The board consists of three businessmen from the community and three overseas members. There is a management committee that meets monthly. This committee helps to oversee the running of the home,' the statement said.It continued, 'The number of children at the home fluctuates. All of the children are under the age of 5. Often the children come as newborns straight from the hospital or from the police station, having been abandoned. The social service workers oversee placement of all the children.'The home has been blessed to see more than 100 children returned to their biological families, placed in foster care or released to adoption. God truly does, 'Care for the widows and the orphans,'' the statement said. The staff consists of volunteers and five salaried workers. The volunteers are responsible for raising their own support, NHCH said."
