The Calaveras Enterprise: "When Asa and Carol Curry were named Calaveras County's Seniors of the Year during a special luncheon at Wendell's, it took county Supervisor Bill Claudino a long time to read off all the contributions these two have made to their community.The San Andreas couple received the award Monday afternoon during a special luncheon at the restaurant in Mokelumne Hill... They were part of a slate of nine women and seven men nominated by their peers and community groups for the honor.Both were nominated by the AARP Chapter 1568.Asa Curry, 77, has worked for Santa's Express for 17 years and served on the group's board for 15 of those, traveling about the county, picking up red donation boxes.He has been active in the Friends of the Library for 18 years, sorting books, working in the book sales room and helping with the library newsletter.He taught the '55 Alive' driving class for five years, volunteered for the Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital auxiliary, is a volunteer driver for the Senior Center, and been active in the Youth With A Mission organization in Barbados and Brazil and worked in a Baja California mission for two years."
